California Governor, Jerry Brown, has dubbed Sunday 16 October as Steve Jobs day following the announcement that Apple will hold a memorial at Stanford University on Sunday.

"This Sunday will be Steve Jobs Day in the State of California," said Brown on Twitter.

Jobs died on 5 October and was buried two days later during a small private funeral.

Prominent Silicon Valley executives are expected to attend including Google and Samsung’s COO Lee Jae-yong.

Many from President Obama to high-profile exec have praised the Apple CEO in recent weeks.

Apple has said that it will hold a larger event for Apple employees at 10am local time at an outdoor amphitheater on Apple’s Cupertino campus on 19 October.

Apple’s stores around the world will also close on the 19 October allowing the staff, wherever they are, to watch a live webcast of the celebration of his life.
