Samsung Nexus Prime 11 October launch pulled

EXCLUSIVE: Shock move

Samsung Nexus Prime 11 October launch pulled!!!

7 October 2011 12:25 GMT / By Rik Henderson

Pocket-lint has just learnt that the Samsung Unpacked 2011 event due to happen on 11 October in San Diego has been canned. And the planned unveiling of both Android Ice Cream Sandwich and the Samsung Nexus Prime is not going ahead.

We have received the following combined statement: "Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

Naturally, with all of the Nexus Prime gossip and rumours that have been flying around over the last few days, including the confirmation by one of our sources that the handset WILL be launched on 11 October, this decision must have been made very recently.

However, perhaps the drastic decision has been made out of respect for the sad passing away of long term rival and industry icon Steve Jobs. And, if so, Pocket-lint can fully understand; if, for example, the ex-Apple CEO's funeral is to be held around the same time, it may be insensitive to whip up a media frenzy over a competing device.

We will update you as and when Samsung and Google set a new date for launch.

UPDATE: Although some websites are reporting that the event is now set for 27 October in London, Pocket-lint can confirm that this is not happening either. Sorry.

Neither Samsung nor Google has decided on a new date or location for the Nexus Prime launch yet.
