Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich 11 October launch confirmed

UPDATE: Event pulled by Samsung and Google

Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich definitely coming 11 October

7 October 2011 11:17 GMT / By Rik Henderson

Although all the signs have been pointing that way, Pocket-lint has conclusively and exclusively learnt from a trusted source that Samsung Mobile will be announcing the Google Nexus Prime handset (aka Galaxy Nexus) at its Unpacked 2011 event in San Diego on 11 October - and that it will come jam-packed with the latest version of Android; Ice Cream Sandwich.

In addition, Greek website DigitalLife has posted a picture that it claims to be the Nexus Prime, and as it's the same site that nailed the iPhone 4S launch details back in September, there is absolutely no reason to doubt its validity.

With both of these, and a leaked holding page on Google's own YouTube (since pulled) claiming that the Ice Cream Sandwich launch is to be streamed live on 11 October, that about wraps that one up. TechCrunch spotted the announcement on the Android Developer YouTube Channel before its disappearance.

These all come on the back of a prior leak, which revealed some of the specifications of the new Google/Samsung handset. It is believed to boast an 1.2GHz dual-core A9 processor with 1GB of RAM.

32GB of internal storage is also expected, along with a rear-mounted 5-megapixel camera on the back with an 1.3 model on the front, plus 1080p video recording capabilities. And the touchscreen will be a stunning 4.56-inch AMOLED HD display (1280 x 720 pixels).

UPDATE: Samsung and Google have pulled the 11 October launch of the Nexus Prime. Statement and details are here...
