Channel 4, like the BBC, has confirmed that there are a growing number of us using online catch up services to watch shows that we’ve missed on telly.

According to the UK broadcaster, viewing figures for its 4oD service are up over 20 per cent on the same period last year as fans of the Inbetweeners flock to watch the first season once again.

"Channel 4's monthly report on 4oD viewing reveals that VoD consumption of Channel 4 programmes has continued to grow in August, attracting 31m long form VoD views across all platforms, up from 29m in July," the company told Pocket-lint.

Hit comedy series The Inbetweeners was the top performing series, drawing 2.2m views for Season 1 in August, whilst Hollyoaks continued its popularity on 4oD with 2.1m views.

Comedy was the top genre for VoD views in August, with 9.5m views, whilst entertainment scored 8.7m views thanks to hit shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Drama, boosted by the popularity of series such as The Killing, received 5.3m views.

One of the factors for the increase could be that, like the BBC iPlayer, 4oD is available on a number of different platforms rather than just the channel4.com website. Those looking to catch up can watch the TV shows on You Tube, iOS, Playstation3, BT Vision, Virgin Media, and Talk Talk.
