The iPhone 5, or maybe that should be the iPhone 4S, will be packing an antenna that will allow it to surf the web faster than the current iPhone 4, according to an operator in China.

The alteration was noticed in a slide during a presentation given by Chinese operator China Unicom; the new “iPhone 5” will have a HSPA+ connection delivering surfing speeds of 21 Mbps up from 7.2Mbps.

HSPA+ or as it is sometimes known in the US - 4G - will deliver faster connection speeds meaning users will be able to surf the web faster and download apps quicker.

According to macrumors.com, "Japanese IT news site PC Watch tells that, Research vice president of China Unicom, Huan Wenliang, said the iPhone 5 will support W-CDMA based high-speed data transfer standard HSPA Evolution 'HSPA+' (21Mbps) at keynote speech in Macworld Asia 2011."

Many in the US have predicted that the new iPhone would feature another, even faster, technology called LTE; however with that technology only available in the US, featuring the tech would limit the capabilities of where it could be sold.

A move to HSPA+, which is a more global standard, would be a more appealing option to Apple inventory managers and customers alike.

China Unicom is Apple's current carrier partner for the iPhone in China, although China Mobile and China Telecom are also working hard to offer the device.

In the UK, Vodafone and Three offer HSPA+ connectivity. On the phone side of things there aren’t many HSPA+ smartphones on the market, however the iPhone 4’s biggest competitor is the Samsung Galaxy S II.
