Sky Go celebrates a million downloads

And states its Cloud aims

Sky has announced that Sky Go has been downloaded a whopping 1 million times since it went live in July.

Sky Go is Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV collaborated and revamped and shows both live streamed and catch up programming.

And it's live streaming that is dominating the platform's early days with 85 per cent of the traffic. Surprising perhaps in a world that's becoming video-on-demand dominated - but with plenty of live sport on offer the real-time experience of Sky Go is unlike any other streaming app.

Sky Sports is the most watched channel, with Sky Sports 2 coming in third, behind Sky News. Transfer deadline day on Sky Sports News was the busiest day so far for the service.

Sky also revealed, as expected, that its recent acquisition of The Cloud will mean free Sky Go access on the, er, go.

"As consumers increasingly get more and more familiar with viewing TV on the go, we understand that they’ll want the very best viewing experience possible," said Holly Knill, head of Sky Player and Mobile TV.

"In the future, it will become even easier for Sky customers to enjoy Sky Go on the move, thanks to our recent acquisition of The Cloud.

"Sky Go’s integration with The Cloud will allow customers to enjoy free access via thousands of wireless hotspots throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, so they can enjoy the highest-quality streaming of the content they love while out and about."

Sky Go is free for Sky subscribers on two different devices of their choice. Non Sky customers can also get in on the fun by paying a subscription fee, with packages starting at £15 per month.
