Sony has today raised the bar for compact digital cameras by announcing a 7.2 megapixel model that is due to be available later this year.

The new model - the Cyber-Shot P150 features a pop-up 3X optical zoom lens by Carl Zeiss, a 1.8in LCD display, aluminium body, and nine scene selection modes.

Sony also boast that the P150 is capable of taking 320 shots on one battery charge. Additionally Sony has provided extra connectivity for the Cyber-shot P150 with an optional powered cradle, the Cyber-shot station.

Similar to the Kodak EasyShare docking system, the Cradle allows you to dock the camera and connect to a PC, printer or AV device, using a remote control to view your images on TV, while the camera battery charges simultaneously.

The camera also offers USB 2.0 and the enhanced PictBridge facility for printing your photos directly to a compatible printer without the need for a PC.

The Cyber-shot P150 can also record MPEG movies that can be played back full screen on a TV with sound.
