Two is better than one for Mercedes V8 engines

When one new V8 engine comes along, it’s reason enough to celebrate, let alone two of them

Mercedes has launched the CLK 63 AMG and tweaked the pre-existing CLK 500, with both receiving new power plants. The AMG gets a 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8, with 481bhp, while the 500 "only" gets a new 338bhp 5.5 litre V8.

The new AMG variant also gets re-tuned sports suspension, 18 inch rims and a high-performance composite braking system. It also comes with probably the best auto gearbox available anywhere - the awesome AMG version of the 7-G Tronic, which is about as smooth as a supermodel’s inner thigh.

The AMG costs from £65,215, the 500 from £47,490.
