It may not be as skinny as its Ultrabook-tag wielding cousin the Asus UX31, but the Asus U46 is as keen as a Weight Watchers graduate to boast about its slimline credentials.

The 14-inch notebook, which has been officially unveiled to the UK for the first time, contains the world’s thinnest 14-inch notebook panel, which is just 5.5mm thick and sits on the keys via a hinge-forward design that also lets you tilt the display for wider viewing angles.

It's a 1366x768 HD display, and the notebook itself is powered by a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i5 processor along with discreet Nvidia GeForce GT540M graphics and 1GB of GDDR3 video memory. Storage is a 500GB HDD and there's 4GB of RAM packed in.

On board there is USB 3.0 connectivity and the battery life is an impressive 10 hours. There's a webcam for video calling, HDMI connectivity, a card reader and security is taken care of by the BIOS booting user password Protection, HDD user password protection and security.

Out now, and available from Comet the Asus U46 will cost you £699.
