Pocket-lint is a big fan of the speakers that San Diego based Altec Lansing offers up. In the past, we've awarded the prestigious "Hot Product" tag to the inMotion Air and the Octiv 202 and the Octiv 450 scored pretty highly as well.

So were delighted to be shown, during a one-to-one briefing with the company's director of network media products Vincenzo Giuliani over at IFA, an Altec Lansing AirPlay enabled speaker that we're told will be coming soon.

Although he wasn't keen to give too many details away of the inAir 5000, Giuliani did tell us a few of the more interesting aspects to the high-end setup.

The tear-drop shape, we're told, is to provide a better sound with a more natural path for sound waves due to the non-parallel walls. There's also a tri-amp platform in place, along with neodymium tweeters, 3-inch kevlar mids and a long throw sub-woofer, which he showed off to us by playing Jack Johnson's Taylor, which sounded superb when the bass kicked in.

On the back there's a USB for charging your devices, Ethernet should you require a wired-connection and also an aux-in. The inAir 5000 will also come with an iOS app that will guide you through the router set-up process.

The inAir 5000 looks awesome - fanboys are going to love the white plastic / brushed aluminium finish and the remote is so stylish that it looks as if it could have even come straight out of Cupertino.

The Altec Lansing inAir 5000 should land before Christmas, no word on pricing as of yet.
