Apple Thunderbolt Display starts shipping

Back in July, at the time when faboys across the world were getting all excited about the arrival of Mac OS X Lion and the new MacBook Airs, the Cupertino collective also found time to detail the new Apple Thunderbolt Display - the world’s first display with Thunderbolt I/O technology.

On 20 July, the tech giant promised to have the 27-inch display on sale within "the next 60 days" and it looks as though it will keep to its aim, as MacRumors has learnt that Apple is beginning to ship the Thunderbolt Display to stores and resellers this week.

Described as the "ultimate docking station for your Mac notebook" the Thunderbolt Display is a 27-inch, 16:9 monitor that packs a FaceTime camera, high quality audio, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and, of course, Thunderbolt ports.

It has a 178-degree viewing angle and packs a 2.1 speaker system as well as a MagSafe charger to keep your MacBook charged up.

Here in Blighty the Thunderbolt Display costs £899 - the Apple Store currently states a delivery time of 2-3 weeks. You'll also need a Mac rocking a Thunderbolt port, of course.
