GAME stops selling pre-owned first gen Xbox 360

UK retailer GAME no longer sells pre-owned Core, Arcade or 20GB non-HDMI Xbox 360s. It will still offer trade-in cash or in-store credit for them, but you will no longer be able to buy one from GAME or its sister Gamestation stores.

Initially, a spokesperson told British videogames website Eurogamer that the reason was down to lack of interest - people just didn't want the older consoles. However, a leaked memo reveals that the truth is that it was really down to reliability issues.

The bulletin, for Gamestation staff states: "As of Saturday 3rd September we will not be selling Pre-owned Xbox 360 Cores, Arcades and 20GB non HDMIs. This is due to the high failure rate of the console and the difficulty and cost of repairing them.

"We will continue to trade these consoles in but they will need to be sent back to the DC as a regular faulty return where they will exit the business."

Of course, the first generation Xbox 360s were plagued with the much publicised red ring of death issues, so perhaps this doesn't come as much of a surprise.
