Apple could release newly designed Mac this year

Totally new product in Apple lineup

Apple could release newly designed Mac this year

Apple could be adding an entirely new product to its Mac lineup that is unlike anything the company currently has on sale.

According to a post on Japanese website macotakara.jp, the Cupertino company plans something "absolutely different from current products". Macotakara did recently get things right with the iPad 2 launch in March, so the rumours could be well founded.

The new product will be given a different name to anything else in Apple's lineup, although what exactly this will be remains to be seen.

No specs, operating system or any other juicy product details to go on unfortunately. It could be entirely possible that Apple is working on some sort of device running on a combination of OS X and iOS, especially given the iDevice-like features found on Lion.

Given the MacBook has now taken leave to be replaced by the new Air as Apple's entry model laptop, the new device could just as easily be a new affordable Mac. It may also materialise in the form of the rumoured ultra-thin MacBook Pro.

Like the idea of a new OS X and iOS powered Mac?
