There are some professions which, for so many years, had their punters over something of a barrel. If you went to the dentist, for example, sometimes you’d maybe need some work done. Other times, you wouldn’t, but I bet you still ended up paying for your teeth to be cleaned, didn’t you?

And you probably never questioned it either. Once upon a time, having your eyes tested was the same too. You squinted at all the little letters on the cards and then you were told that you needed glasses or contact lenses. Nine times out of ten, you’d cough up there and then for whichever deal the optician was offering that week.

Now, thankfully, things are different. Once you’ve got your prescription you should stumble home, being careful not to bump into anything on the way - what with your deficient eyesight and all - and get online.
