Orbitsound launches T12v3 soundbar

23 August 2011 0:01 GMT / By Libby Plummer

The Orbitsound T12v3 soundbar is the third version of the the British audio specialist's popular iPod-friendly T12 TV speaker and features new drivers along with improved bass response. We were invited along for a sneak preview, as well as being given a pre-production sample to take away for a full review.

Like its predecessors, the Orbitsound T12v3 boasts the company's proprietary spatial stereo technology that is designed to produce stereo sound from one unit, eliminating the need for a "sweet spot", so that the stereo effect can be enjoyed from any position within the room. As well as being a soundbar that's ideal for use with a TV, the T12v3 also includes an integrated dock for iPod and iPhone.

Building on the success of the previous model, the T12v3 sports specially developed speaker drivers that include higher quality components for a clearer, more stable sound at higher volumes. The compact soundbar is paired with a wired subwoofer, which has been enhanced to offer a smoother bass response than the previous model.

The new model also comes with an upgraded remote control with an extended range and includes optical, coaxial and analogue connections (but no HDMI) for hooking up to a TV, along with a 3.5mm input for connecting non-Apple devices.

Orbitsound's head of UK sales, Richard Williams, told Pocket-lint that: "Following the UK launch in September, we're hoping to start selling in the US in 2012 and we'll also be aiming to increase our retail channels in the UK".

Williams also told us that the company is looking into licensing the technology, so it's just possible that we could see this spatial stereo wizardry popping up on products from other manufacturers in the future.

The Orbitsound T12v3 will be available from September for £299. The brand will also be launching its T14 soundbar with wireless subwoofer and separate iPod dock in the not-too-distant future. Availability and prices have yet to be confirmed.
