Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1 system goes special edition

Back at the beginning of 2010 Boston Acoustics announced an ultra-compact surround sound home theatre speaker system called the SoundWare XS 5.1.

And apparently it did rather well, so the company has launched a special edition version of the system with a variety of high-gloss finishes.

The speakers themselves are a little unusual-looking; they're shaped like a polyhedron. Boston Acoustics states that this is to clean up the sound by reducing standing waves. Each polyhedron contains a 2.5-inch woofer and a 0.5-inch tweeter, and features a mounting bracket and weatherproof build.

The subwoofer has a 100W amp (200W peak) and an 8-inch graphite injected polymer woofer with an acoustically tuned port. It also packs Deep Channel Design - designing the magnetics of the motor structure to get the greatest woofer stroke. The company reckons that'll deliver more bass from less power.

No word on pricing yet, but the original sells for around £299 so expect much the same.
