Bose has updated its QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones, and is now producing version 3, which is smaller and more portable than its predecessor.

Bose engineers have developed all sorts of new electronic circuitry to reduce noise actively, so that the headset adjusts dynamically to changing noise sources.

The new kind of ear cushion uses memory foam cell structure and an air-restrictive outer covering, so that a seal is formed that blocks out unwanted noise.

The TriPort acoustic headphone structure found in the QuietComfort 3 were originally used for pilots, so they're ideal for frequent air travelers.

The headphones operate from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 20 hours of continues use; they connect to the source with a single cable.

They don’t come cheap; the QuietComfort 3 costs £275 from Bose's website; QuietComfort 2 are still available for £225.
