The Microsoft Explorer Touch mouse that Pocket-lint successfully spied at an event in London last week has now got a price tag and release date.

The inbetweener in the new Microsoft mouse family is set to hit shop shelves in September, priced in at $49.95.

The mouse uses something called BlueTrack technology, which allows you to scroll and click on just about any surface, putting an end to nasty mouse mats forever. Anything from jeans to carpet can be used as a surface for the mouse.

A whopping 18 month battery life is also included in the mouse's spec sheet, meaning close to two years between battery replacement. Also featured is a clever haptic touch scroll pad and five customisable buttons.

A factory-paired USB receiver packs into the mouse's body for travel to keep things as compact as possible, hence the 'explorer' part of the name.

Expect coal black, storm gray, sangria red and rust red colour choices when things launch in September.
