WEBSITE OF THE DAY – NFC Hub

The future is all about proximity

NFC. Three little letters that we’ve talked about before . Three little letters which hold an enticing future for the mobile phone operators and manufacturers.

Why? Because they represent yet another way to make those little boxes of glass, plastic and microchips that we call mobiles even more indispensible.

The idea of putting your wallet, travel pass, driving license, passport or car key into your mobile phone could prove to be a valuable revenue stream, and it’s already happening. In the UK Orange have launched Quick Tap, letting you pay for small items using your phone at places like Eat, Pret and Subway. And this is surely just the tip of the iceberg.

But that’s all very well for the big operators – the high street names with stacks of cash to invest in new tech - but what about the little guy?

At www.nfc-hub.com more modest outfits can jump on this new high-tech bandwagon and stock up on some NFC tags of their own, These are little gizmos that activate the NFC chips in the new mobiles and let the user see or experience whatever content you might want - in this instance it's mainly social networking interactions designed to part of print poster campaigns.

It’s an intriguing idea and once the phone ranges start to grow (you should see plenty more by the end of the year) this could very fast become the normal way that mobile customers interact with the commercial world.
