VW has announced that its Concept A design for its new compact SUV will be called the Tiguan.
The car, originally shown at the Detroit Motor Show last year will take on the Land Rover Freelander and BMW X3 and be the smaller brother to the company's Touareg model.
The name, was voted for by 350,000 readers of German car magazine AutoBild.
Readers had the choice of five names including Nanuk, Namib, Rockton and Samun and Tiguan.
A clear majority voted for Tiguan Volkswagen said.
Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, the chairman of the board of management for the Volkswagen brand said, "This unique event is demonstrative of how Volkswagen is opening up: we made a clear appeal to the market - potential buyers could help choose the name Tiguan. The positive reaction shows that this is the right approach".
