VIDEO: MoD warns of Facebook dangers

The Ministry of Defence has launched an online campaign, primarily aimed at serviceman and women and their families, warning them of the dangers of social networking.

Two videos have been released on the MoD's Facebook and YouTube pages, the first of which shows a mother of a soldier posting details of her son's Forward Operating Base and then having tea with a chap looking alarmingly like a terrorist.

The next video shows woman from the Navy using her smartphone to check in on Twitter, Foursquare and the like, and then having a boogie with the terrorist in her local nightclub.

MoD spokesman Maj Gen John Lorimer said that the adverts were meant to raise awareness of the implications of social networks, rather than discourage their usage.

"We want our men and women to embrace the use of sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube, but also want them to be aware of the risks that sharing too much information may pose," he said. "You don't always know who else is watching in cyberspace."

The adverts end with the message: ""Think before you tweet / blog / update / tag / comment / check-in / upload / text / share."
