You'd have thought what with all the negative press Sony has been on the end of as of late, with regards to its online services, that it'd be making a song and dance about the launch of the Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity app into the Android Market.
But no, not a peep from the Japanese giant - just a back-door arrival for the app which is now available for free.
The app provides access to the full (7 million+) Qriocity music catalogue, with basic users getting a personalised radio station option and streaming of their own tunes, and premium users getting live access to the whole library whenever they want. There's also a free 30 day trial on offer to test it out.
The Music Unlimited app lives up to the promises from Kazuo Hirai, president of Networked Products & Services Group, Sony Corporation who stated when the music cloud service launched back in December 2010 that: "As we continue to expand Qriocity globally, these services ‘powered by Qriocity’ offer a single ID log-in and wallet solution, and empower users to easily consume content including music and video across a growing number of integrated devices."
What those devices are though remain to be seen though. The Android Market listing states "For a list of supported Android devices, visit" but then draws a blank.
There are murmurs that it's for Sony Ericsson phones only - although Pocket-lint has been able to get the app up and running on a Nexus One - but strangely, not a Samsung Galaxy S II.
The Music Unlimited app is free, and available now in the Android Market. It works with Android 2.1 - 2.3.3.
Update: It seems to work on a variety of Android handsets, not just Sony Ericsson ones. Thanks readers.
