Looks like Apple and Nokia have finally decided to play nice and bring their patent lawsuit to an end. The result? Well it looks like good news for the Finnish company, who has received a one-off settlement from Apple as well as continued royalties.

The agreement symbolises the end of one of the most high profile technology litigations between companies in recent memory.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has said in a press release: "We are very pleased to have Apple join the growing number of Nokia licensees. This settlement demonstrates Nokia's industry leading patent portfolio and enables us to focus on further licensing opportunities in the mobile communications market."

Given Nokia's recent troubles, the settlement can't be a bad thing. The company has had to admit losing market share in a major way to both Apple and Google.

At one point Nokia had no less than 46 patents in suit against Apple. But now, all complaints have now been withdrawn from the US International Trade Commission, bringing an end to Nokia's patent war with Apple over the iPhone and iPad.

Nokia states that the end of the legal wrangles will mean "a positive financial impact on Nokia's recently revised outlook for the second quarter 2011". Hmmm. We're not so sure.
