If you’re a current fan of Apple’s MacBook Air, then Asus just announced UX-series is definitely going to be your cup of tea. It’s Asus first unibody all metal notebook and it’s a clear statement from that company that it wants to compete on equal terms with Apple. The UX-series measures a mere 17mm thin at its thickest part and it a mere 3mm at the front while weighing in less than most netbooks at 1.1kg.

Despite being a super slim and lightweight notebook, Asus hasn’t skimped on the hardware as the company has teamed up with Intel to create what can be described as an ultra ultra-low power CPU SKU which we were told was passively cooled, although someone else at the media event mentioned that it did indeed have a fan to help cool it.

The UX-series will be available with a full range of second generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors we've been told at the event in Taipei to kick off Computex 2011.

If that wasn’t enough, Asus has also kitted out the UX-series with a SATA 6Gbps SSD to help boost the performance of the very low power CPU.

Other features include a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a micro HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort connector and an audio jack.

Sadly, Asus is keeping mum on availability or pricing, but UX-series should be available this year.
