Vauxhall has shown off its new Corsa at this years British Motor show in London with a fanfare by suspending the new model from a helicopter over the river Thames.

The new design, the third for the supermini will start from just £7495 for the three-door 1.0 12v Expression when it becomes available in October.

Coming in both three-door and five-door versions the three-door will be targeted specifically at younger buyers while Vauxhall is hoping to appeal to families with the bigger model.

There are five trims - Expression, Life, Design and SXi from the old car are joined by a new mid-range Club trim. Prices start at £7495 for the three-door 1.0 Expression, rising to £13,795 for the five-door 1.7 CDTI Design.

Standard equipment for the UK will include twin front airbags, central locking and a CD player, with Life models adding remote central locking and electric windows.

Club versions have side and curtain airbags, a MP3-compatible audio system with steering wheel-mounted controls, a dual-layer boot floor, body-coloured door handles, and SXi spec has heated door mirrors, 16-inch alloys, sports front seats, sports suspension, fog lights, a chrome exhaust tailpipe, darkened light lenses and of course a leather-covered steering wheel.

Finally those wishing to push the boat out completely can opt for the Design range, with auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, air conditioning and chrome-trimmed dials.

Engines for the range offered from launch are the 1.0 12v, 1.2 16v, 1.4 16v and economical Fiat-GM 1.3 CDTi diesel.

Five-speed manual is the most widely available gearbox, but there are automatic and Easytronic options too.
