Samsung has priced and dated its forthcoming Chromebook. The new device will be here (in the UK) on 24 June and cost £349. The more eagle-eyed among you will spot that its UK-launch comes 9 days after the US.

Going by the moniker of Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, the new offering from the Korean company will come with a 12.1-inch screen and be just 0.79-inch thick when closed.

According to Samsung, the 12.1-inch Super Bright WXGA LCD (1280x800) display is both “anti-reflective and anti-glare” and will sport a 300nit brightness, which should be able to cope with most work environments, including the park.

The Series 5 packs an Intel N570 1.66GHz Dual Core processor, 2GB RAM and a 16GB hard drive for those “not in the cloud” moments. It will weigh 1.34Kg.

Other stats to impress your mates with include its battery life of up to 8.5 hours, including 5 hours of video play for all day use without the need to recharge,

An optional VGA adaptor can connect to a second monitor or television, while audio inputs connect to a microphone, headphones or external speakers. The HD Webcam completes the Series 5’s audio-visual package.

On the connectivity front there will be a 3G version, but both will come with WLAN, a 4-in-1 card reader and two USB sockets.

Of course the device will run Google's new operating system Chrome OS, that promises start up times of under 10 seconds and dispenses the need to store anything locally.

The Samsung Series 5 will be available on Amazon.co.uk and PCWorld.co.uk from 24 June. The 3G Wi-Fi model will retail at £399.

Notebookitalia.com has spotted that Samsung has now posted an official video of the new Samsung Series 5 ChromeBook in action complete with a Mario-esque sound track.
