For the first time in its 140 year history the FA Cup Final will be broadcast in 3D, as Sky and ESPN have announced details of their coverage for the big match between Manchester City and Stoke City.
ESPN will be shooting the action in 3D, and Sky 3D will be switching to its coverage at 2.30pm. There will also be no adverts on Sky 3D from 2.30pm until after Carlos Tévez or Ryan Shawcross lift the famous trophy.
“ESPN is extremely proud to have been at the forefront of the development of 3D sports coverage, and are very excited to work with other companies like Sky that are leading the way as well,” said Murray Barnett, vice president, ESPN Media Distribution.
“Sports have proven to be a driver for technology and innovation repeatedly through the years, and that continues today with 3D TV. Bringing ESPN 3D’s production of great events like the FA Cup Final the Winter X Games and more to fans on Sky 3D will help showcase the new dimension that technology has made possible.”
Sky itself will be shooting and broadcasting the Champions League Final live from Wembley 14 days later.
To view both matches in 3D you'll need a Sky HD package and a 3D TV, or a friendly landlord who hands out glasses in a Sky 3D pub.
