Britain is probably the only country in the world where the weather regularly makes the news. I’m not talking about extremes of weather either. I mean just a few degrees difference either way and suddenly our newspapers are full of scantily clad lovelies frolicking in the surf or frozen postal workers trudging through snowdrifts.
We’re obsessed with the weather. The only thing we like to talk about more is how to get from one place to another. Put two Brits in a room and within minutes they’ll be asking each other what the weather was like where they came from and which route they took to get there. Weird.
Anyway, for the cold hard facts about the weather, there’s always been one name to trust – the Met Office. But things were looking a bit iffy a while ago. They got some things wrong with their forecasts and at one point there were rumours that even their contract to supply the BBC’s weather reports was in danger. They seem to have bucked up their ideas though and this website is just one of the ways they now pit their wits against Mother Nature.
With a range of apps for mobiles all tied into the data at www.metoffice.gov.uk, you can also take the weather reporting with you, so you’ll never get caught out.
