George Lucas has boldly stated that he believes that 3D will eventually be the dominant format for movies, and that even today, 2D films are old hat.
Sitting on a digital-film panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, US, alongside James Cameron and Dreamworks Animation's Jeffrey Katzenberg, Lucas said: "So now, when you're watching a movie and it's not in 3-D, it's like watching in black and white. It's a better way of looking at a film... I totally believe now that 3-D will completely take over just like colour did."
He also said that 2D to 3D conversion can "look fantastic" if done correctly.
Of course, he's currently in the process of remastering his Star Wars trilogies for 3D cinematic release from February 2012.
Additionally, James Cameron is remastering Titanic for a 3D release next year, while Jeffrey Katzenberg's Dreamworks will be releasing Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D.
Will 3D become the de facto standard for movies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below...
