LeapFrog starts search for Britain's best (very) young directors

With its Leapster Explorer camera accessory helping kids to make video clips of their own, LeapFrog is now looking nationwide for the best young directors, offering a trip for the whole family to Florida for the ultimate winner.

Runners-up will also get their movies screened in a forthcoming Short Film Festival (on 31 May 2011) to take part in the London Transport Museum, in the heart of Covent Gardens.

The competition is open for children aged between four and nine, and they (and their families) can submit their 90 second short movies by uploading them onto LeapFrog’s dedicated website hosted on Netmums.com by 17 April 2011. They will then be judged by a panel including children's TV presenter Dave Benson-Philips (Get Your Own Back!).

“Following the huge success of the Leapster Explorer console and its video camera add on, the Short Film Festival is a chance for us to celebrate by offering one lucky finalist the chance of a lifetime to explore the magical world of cinema at Universal Studios in Florida," said Samantha Harris, the company's marketing manager. "We can’t wait to see the creations uploaded to the site, and look forward to meeting all of the finalists and their families at our exciting premiere in May!”

And who knows, it may unearth the next Spielberg, who made his first 40-minute movie at the age of 13.

They might even end up directing Big Momma's House 4. Before they're six.
