BlackBerry PlayBook US pre-orders open with iPad pricing

Arriving 19 April

The BlackBerry PlayBook has finally been given some official release details from Research in Motion - the long awaited 7-inch tablet is due to land on 19 April, with pre-orders through Best Buy open now.

And RIM has also met it's promise at getting a PlayBook into the shops for less than $500 - the 16GB version comes in at $499.99.

If 16GB isn't enough for you, then you'll pay an extra $100 to double to 32GB, or $200 more for the 64GB version.

"Previews of the BlackBerry PlayBook have generated tremendous excitement and we know that customers are eager to get their hands on one," said Craig McLennan, regional managing director, North America, Research In Motion.

"We share that excitement and we are very pleased to announce that customers can begin placing their orders with Best Buy today."

There's no official UK release details yet, but we did already tell you that leaked documents suggest that the BlackBerry PlayBook won't be hitting the UK until June on the Three mobile network.
