The .xxx domain name could go live this week - creating an online red light porn district.

The porn industry has been calling for its introduction for years although, until now, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has repeatedly rejected it.

However, it seems as if the triple-x domain is going to get the green light when ICANN members vote at a meeting in San Francisco this week.

Back in 2005 CM Registry called for its introduction but it's reported that George W. Bush's administration didn't want it put through.

We think it's a good idea, especially if it was made compulsory for all porn sites. It would take away the embarrassing situation of landing on a porn site when mistyping a .com or .co.uk address.

Sure, we're all for the odd bit of web porn, but not during a boardroom presentation to your senior managers and the foreign visitors from the Tokyo office. We'll never live that down....
