Sole custom footbeds - heat mouldable

Custom orthotics you can mould yourself

7 July 2006 16:40 GMT / By Chris Hall

Many sports injuries come from the bottom up. No, not that bottom, I mean the bottom of your feet. Runners have long-known that wearing the wrong shoes can wreak havoc with your legs, knees, hips and back, as well as your feet. Not just superficial pains either, but serious long-term injuries.

Sole reckon they have the answer with their range of customisable orthotics. Orthotics, basically, are an insert for your footwear that offers more support in the right places, to iron out any biomechanical difficiencies you might have. Nowadays this is big business as a physio's consultancy will set you back real money.

Over-the-counter offerings have always been out there, but Sole offer a range that you can mould to your feet, and according to their blurb, meaning you can get the support you need, where you need it.

Heating takes place in the oven at home, then place the footbed into your shoe, and stand on it for 2 minutes. After that, you should be done. Of course, there is a small disclaimer to remind you that you should let yourself get used to the new level of support over a period of time - don't expect to race out of the door straight into a marathon.

Coming in several varieties, for differing types of shoes, you can pick what you need. Prices are £35, which is where people will raise their eyebrows - more than your average £5 insole, but less than a £200 podiatrist. Your call. They offer a 90 day satisaction guarantee, so if you're not happy, you get your money back - no quibble.
