Wow, if Epic's incredible demo "Samaritan" is an accurate vision of what games might look like in the next couple of years then we're excited. Très, très, très excité as our French cousin Monsieur Lint de Poche would say.

The Unreal Engine 3 demo was developed with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 500 series of graphics cards and was revealed at the 2011 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

UE3 supports DirectX 11 and makes use of DirectX features such as tessellation and displacement, geometry shaders, multisampled textures and Shader Model 5. It also features high-end rendering aspects such as image-based reflections, anisotropic HDR highlights and anti-aliasing.

For the non developers out there, this basically means that it is jam packed full of tech that is going to make future games look as drop dead gorgeous as this.

Sadly, there's no concrete plans to make Samaritan into an actual game though. Boo.
