iOS 4.3 goes live tonight at 6pm GMT claims source

8 March 2011 15:12 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sources are suggesting that Apple's iOS 4.3 for the iPhone and iPad could be landing as soon as today (8 March), rather than 11 March as publicly detailed by Apple.

Although Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, confirmed at the company’s iPad 2 launch that the new version of the company’s mobile operating system wasn’t due until Friday 11 March, BGR’s editor is claiming that he’s been told by “one of our sources” that it’s actually coming today (8 March).

“Oh, and we’ve also been told iOS 4.3 will be available for public download at 10am PT today [6pm GMT]. Fire up iTunes and get your update trigger-finger ready,” claims the site.

BGR is pretty good at getting the inside scoop on all things mobile, but it’s also worth pointing out that the site has also got plenty wrong before when it comes to double guessing Cupertino.

In this case, however, the rumour is backed up by the fact that developers, as part of the Apple developer programme for the OS, were emailed at the weekend telling them that 4.3 had "gone GM" - meaning that it’s ready for primetime.

The new OS brings with it a number of new features including better AirPlay support and the ability to turn your Apple device into a wireless hotspot.

We’ll be sure to watch the channels later and will let you know as soon as we do.

UPDATE: Didn't happen. Damn your eyes BGR...
