Half of the UK now on Facebook

2 March 2011 14:42 GMT / By Paul Lamkin

There are now more than 30 million UK social networkers signed up to Facebook - which is almost half of the population.

The passing of the 30 million milestone was revealed by Joanna Shields, vice president of sales and business development at Facebook, during the FT Digital Media & Broadcasting conference in London.

Shields also stated that 50 per cent of these 30 million users check in every day, meaning that around a quarter of the UK's population are spending time on the social network on a daily basis.

Facebook has over 500 million users worldwide (at the last count, at least) and last year was more popular than Google in the US with 7.07 per cent of all US website visits.

Not bad for a network drawn up by an awkward recluse in his dorm room in order to talk to girls.
