Just a day after the all-new Apple MacBook Pro goes on sale iFixit has already been hard at work - hammers in hand - taking apart Apple's latest high-end laptop.

Available in 13-, 15- and 17-inch screen sizes, as well as a whole host of spec boosts, the main point of interest for the iFixit team is the Thunderbolt port; developed by Intel (as Light Speed on other devices) is a new optical cable transfer standard that offers speeds up to 10Gbps. It allows super fast sharing of files and information between compatible devices.

inside, and the logic board gave up its secrets in the form of: Intel i7 Quad-Core Processor, AMD Radeon HD 6490M GPU, Intel BD82HM65 Platform Controller Hub and Intel L051NB32 EFL - this being the controller for the Thunderbolt port.

So quicker than you can say "pass me the screwdriver" the teardown team found out that you can: "chain up to six Thunderbolt devices." Which was cited as a potential problem in the future.

The Unibody shell was greeted with approval, and the team gave the new MacBook Pro a very respectable 7/10 for repairability, mainly due to easy access and the only tricky repair being the "LCD replacement, which could easily result in shattering the front glass panel."
