Sony has announced its new Vaio L series all-in-one multimedia PC, which the company hopes will become the centre of your family's multimedia world.

The facts of the matter are that PCs more than ever are the centre for family life, so there is the need to have something that's constantly open and constantly on, and it's got to look good, rather than just being a laptop sitting on the edge of a coffee table.

Pocket-lint got its hands on at the London launch and we're pleased to bring back the news that, yes, the Vaio L all-in-one PC does look good. It's not mind-blowing. In fact, it's actually pretty similar to all the other AIOs that are out there; what seems to set this one apart more than the rest is the interactive bezel.

The screen consists of a 24-inch Full HD touch display with LED backlight, but it's the black frame that performs a handful of different shortcut functions depending upon where you press it. You can maximize and minimize windows, launch an application of your choice and navigate your way around the web. On first play, it wasn't exactly intuitive and nor did it seem like a godsend once you manage to get used to it either, but it didn't get in the way.

The meat of the device consists of an Intel Core i7 or i5 processor, which should give plenty of grunt for dealing with the majority of your media, and it also sports Nvidia with DX11 support for any HD video you want to play.

There's also the option for Blu-ray disc writer allowing you to create, edit and store HD content with up to 50GB of storage on a single Blu-ray Disc. Whilst the S-Force Front Surround 3D should complement this.

Wireless data transfers are accelerated by Bluetooth 3.0, while SuperSpeed USB 3.0 boosts file transfer speeds by up to ten times compared with USB 2.0.

The Sony all-in-one 24-inch Vaio L Series multimedia PC should be available from early May 2011, though no word on pricing.
