Sony has refreshed its Vaio range on Tuesday with new models for its S series and it’s C Series notebooks.

The colourful C Series it will pack a slightly bigger 14-inch widescreen “VAIO display” into the mix, a HD web camera powered by the company’s "Exmor" sensor technology and HDMI out (3D supported) for watching videos and games on 3D TV – Remember Sony is all about 3D at the moment.

But the interesting bit is the fact that the laptop glow:

"The latest VAIO C Series showcases a radical style direction by Sony that stands out from run-of-the-mill notebook PCs. A choice of fashion colours include two special orange and green ‘light emitting’ options. This audacious design scatters light along edges of the translucent PC lid and other key surfaces to create a dramatic glow effect," says Sony.

Other features include backlighting on the full-pitch isolation keyboard, a multi-touch trackpad, and a WEB button that will get you up and surfing the internet “in seconds”. There’s also an ASSIST button that launches VAIO Care software, troubleshooting problems and keeping your VAIO in top condition.

Inside and you’ll get an Intel Core i5 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6470M, and a 320GB HDD space and 4GB RAM with Windows 7 Home Premium powering all.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth, four USB ports (one USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0) and a new HDMI out (3D supported).

Available as an option when you order the VAIO C Series online, hybrid graphics switch automatically between performance and battery-saving modes to suit the task in hand. Other choices when you order online from Sony include CPU and storage enhancements to power up your VAIO.

The new 14-inch VAIO C Series of notebook PCs by Sony will be available for three weeks exclusively at John Lewis, Sony Centres and www.sony.co.uk from the week commencing 21st March 2011, and from other additional retailers after this exclusivity period.

As for the new S Series will come with a new smart battery concept, 13.3-inch VAIO Display Plus screen (1366x768), Intel Core i5 processor, 4Gb RAM, 500GB of storage, hybrid graphics, backlit keyboard and ambient light sensor and VAIO "everywair" 3G WWAN built in all in a body that shrinks to less than 24mm, while weight is a travel-friendly 1.75kg.

Hoping to improve your ability to work on the go and without the need to constantly look for power sockets, the VAIO S Series actually has two batteries. An internal lithium polymer battery that provides power for up to 7 hours, says Sony, and a second thin, flat optional lithium polymer extended battery that can be charged separately from the PC and added without removing the internal battery. The second battery attaches without having to switch off the PC, boosting stamina to up to 14 hours.

Users will also be able to save power by switching graphics modes thanks to the included AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series card (with either 512MB or 1GB VRAM).

The new VAIO S Series slim, ultra-mobile notebook PCs are available from the end of March 2011.
