Playengine.co.uk now has the Bamboo Monitor in stock

A monitor for tree-huggers

5 July 2006 11:09 GMT / By Amber Maitland

It's just what we've all been waiting for – a monitor made of wood.

The 15-inch LCD has a frame completely made of bamboo, except for the buttons on the front.

Bamboo is apparently harder than oak, and the type that's used for the monitor is not only environmentally friendly because it's made from an easily-renewable source, but is panda-friendly too, as pandas prefer a soft bamboo.

In case you're worried about wood worm and rot, fear not. The bamboo is dried in high temperatures, and then put through a process of solidification. Finally, it's coated with a worm- and rot-resistance paint.

And why not complete your set-up with a wooden mouse and keyboard?

The monitor is available from Playengine here, and costs £217. The mouse is £17.99, while the keyboard is £24.99.
