The HTC Wildfire S will be the follow on to the successful HTC Wildfire launched in 2010 the company has confirmed at its press conference on Tuesday at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

New for this model, the company has doubled the screen resolution from QVGA to HVGA which, say HTC, will give the phone a “True HTC sense experience”.

It will sport Android 2.4, yes Android 2.4, and head into shops in “late Q2”, which should mean June if all goes to plan.

Inside it will come with a Qualcomm MSM 7227 600MHz chip, 512MB of RAM, and that improved capacitative TFT display at 320 x 480. There is a 5-megapixel camera around the back.

Although a budget handsets, the HTC Wildfire S hasn't scrimped on materials offering the unibody design found elsewhere in the HTC range.

No word on UK operators as yet, however we suspect it to be available on most when it launches later in the year.
