As revealed exclusively on Pocket-lint on Tuesday, YouView isn't going to be hitting UK homes until early 2012.
We revealed the delayed February 2012 date after an inside source spilled the beans to us, and now YouView has officially confirmed the delay in a carefully worded statement.
The subscription-free internet-connected TV service said that a trial of the platform will be live in 2011, but it'll be 2012 before we see set-top boxes hit the shops.
Richard Halton, CEO of YouView said: "Our focus has always been to deliver a product to consumers that is right, but not rushed.
"Creating a truly open TV platform that will bring consumers increased choice has required significant technological innovation. Our timings for the launch reflect the scale and complexity of this project."
YouView (née Project Canvas) is a video-on-demand service developed by broadcasters BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV, as well as ISPs Arqiva, BT and TalkTalk. Its aim is to supply a one box solution that brings catch-up TV, Freeview, HD content and recording functionality, for a one-off payment, rather than monthly subscription.
