Verizon Wireless in the US has revealed that it has ceased online orders of the iPhone 4 to its existing customers, after a record of first day sales on .

This new round of demand is due to the CDMA antenna which has been equipped to the Verizon iPhone 4, producing very good US-centric call coverage - although calling won't be as easy outside of the US and you can't use voice and data at the same time data.

Unfortunately this high demand seems to have led to both Apple and Verizon selling out of CDMA iPhone 4s.

Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon Wireless said: "In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story. It is gratifying to know that our customers responded so enthusiastically to this exclusive offer - designed to reward them for their loyalty".

So although on first glance a success, it seems that supply is limited and probably isn't the start Verizon hoped for as many existing Verizon customers would of been hoping to get in early.

The general launch of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will be on 9 February online and 10 February in store. This will consist of  the opening of more than 2000 Verizon Wireless Stores at 7am as well as all Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Wal-Mart stores, and on-line at verizonwireless.com and apple.com.
