Rovio Mobile, the makers behind the Angry Birds games has announced that it’s teamed up with 20th Century Fox for a new Angry Birds game that’s due out in March.

The new game, Angry Birds Rio, will be released in connection with the new movie Rio due out in April.

If you haven’t heard the hype or seen the trailer yet, Rio is a new animated movie that follows a domesticated Macaw called Blu, who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota.

Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart before getting kidnapped. As you might expect, he makes a load of new friends, escapes and then has to get back home.

In steps Angry Birds Rio, seeing the original Angry Birds kidnapped and taken to Rio, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save their friends, Blu and Jewel.

Rovio says that Angry Birds Rio will pair the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the highly-anticipated film.

Does that mean the pigs will be there? It’s highly unlikely.

Angry Birds Rio will launch with 45 dedicated levels and will regularly add new levels via app updates.

The game will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.
