Google has stolen a march on Apple in the battle for smartphone supremacy, with Android overtaking iOS in the US in terms of platform usage, according to a new report from digital business analyst comScore.
And whilst it must be remembered that there are a large number of Android handsets out there, compared to just four (and only one released in the last year) for Apple with the iPhone, it's still a big milestone for the Big G to achieve.
The US Android smartphone market share went up to 26 per cent by November 2010, from 19.6 per cent 3 months prior. iOS usage also grew, but only 0.8 per cent, up to 25 per cent.
Research in Motion still leads the way, but its hold on top spot looks to be under threat - its share fell 4.1 per cent to 33.5 per cent.
Worldwide sales of Android devices have been growing rapidly over the last few months, but this is the first time that it has topped Apple in the States.
And, with Gingerbread handsets due to land in big numbers in 2011, it can surely only be a matter of time before Android can claim top spot.
