As everyone now knows two dimensions is no longer good enough, we now all need 3D - the 3D camcorder companies tell us so. It's just as well then that JVC has chosen CES 2011 to launch its Full HD 3D consumer camcorder - apparently a world's first.

The new JVC GS-TD1 is capable of producing two simultaneous HD images using two camera lenses and two 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensors - one for each lens - to capture 3D images.

The title of the world's first comes from the “LR Independent Format” (left and right images are taken at 1920 x 1080i and processed simultaneously by its high-speed imaging engine) producing a consumer-oriented camcorder capable of 3D shooting in Full HD.

There's a load of tech that apparently, "sets a new standard" in high res lenses including, "extra-low-dispersion glass for crisp, high-contrast images, as well as multiple aspherical lenses for fine image reproduction".

Other features include 3D optical 5x zoom, Optical Axis Automatic Stabilization System for disparity control to give depth to 3D images, JVC’s BIPHONIC technology for dynamic 3D sound and Automatic Parallax Adjustment to optimize the 3D-video comfort zone .

JVC has also announced the Everio GZ-HM960 distinguished by its 2D-to-3D output function, which turns any 2D footage into 3D. Output can be viewed without glasses on the camera’s 3.5-inch 3D LCD monitor, or by connecting the camcorder to an external 3D television.

The JVC GZ-TD1 Full HD 3D camcorder will be available in March for $1,999.95, whilst the HD Everio GZ-HM960 will be available in February for $949.95.

Despite JVC's claims Sony was also claiming the world's first HD 3D consumer camcorder, with the Sony HDR-TD10E; fortunately Pocket-lint was on hand to take some hands-on shots and at $1500 it's a relative snip compared to the JVC. Two world's firsts - whatever next?
