Nintendo has announced that its super-popular handheld gaming device, the Nintendo DS, has achieved the title of the best-selling gaming system in US of all time.
The figures are obviously pretty impressive, with over 47 million units sold in the us alone, which means it beats its next closest gaming rival - the PlayStation 2. Not only this but Nintendo's Wii console is still selling rather well, with recent figures showing over 7 million sales in 2010.
"When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products”, said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed”.
Good news for Nintendo then, but will its soon-to-be-released (March in US) Nintendo 3DS be enough to compete with developments from Microsoft and Sony, or does it need a stand-alone home console to follow up the Wii?
