The amount of apps available in the Android Market may still fall quite a way short of the App Store (300,000+ at the last count), but if its current rate of expansion continues then it won't be long before it catches up or, dare we say it, overtakes the Apple platform.
Back in March this year we reported that the Android Market had hit the 30,000 app milestone, a figure that almost doubled the one touted for December 2009.
On 26 October 2010 we reported that the 100,000 figure had been hit - more than tripling its offerings in just seven months. And now the total number of Android apps has hit a whopping 200,000.
So that's double the figure it originally took two years to reach, in just two months.
And, with a brand spanking new version of the popular OS now appearing on Android handsets (2.3 - Gingerbread) and a tablet-specific version set to hit in the next month or so (2.4 or possibly 3.0 - Honeycomb) the count is surely set to grow.
Look out Cupertino, there's a little green man hot on your tail.
