Olympus has updated it’s E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds camera at CES in Las Vegas bringing with it a number of new features, a slightly refined body and the ability, with an optional Bluetooth accessory, to have images sent wirelessly to a smartphone nearby.

The Olympus E-PL2 will sport a larger 3-inch display, Live Guide access in HD Movie mode, a handy Live Wheel feature selector and a faster, lighter, virtually silent M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm 1:3-5-5.6 II lens that should appeal.

Meanwhile that PENPAL Bluetooth Communication Unit, as Olympus is lovingly calling it, will let you beam your photos to your phone after automatically resizing them to share on your favourite social networking site.

In keeping with the E-PL1, the E-PL2 will feature Olympus’ Art Filters, HD movie mode, and a new Dramatic Tone filter.

A 12.3 effective megapixel High Speed Live MOS sensor, multi exposure for combining up to three RAW images, ISO support up to 6400, shutter speed up to 1/4000th second and sequential shooting at 3fps complete the package.

Furthermore the new kit lens comes with the ability to take three new conversion lenses to increase the potential of what is possible without massively breaking the budget.

The WCON-P01 wide-angle (for 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 II lens), FCON-P01 specialist fisheye (for 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 II lens), and MCON-P01 macro (for 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 II, 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 and 14-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 lenses) will add macro, wide, and fisheye options for under £100 each say Olympus.

The E-PL2 is available from January 2011 for around £500.
