Launched back in June, the Amazon Kindle app for Android has just received its first major upgrade, bringing with it some tasty new additions.

First up in Kindle 2.0, is the ability to purchase over 100 newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Newsweek and The Atlantic - a feature that was promised when the app was first announced.

The Kindle Store now takes its rightful place within the app - there's no longer any need to switch to the browser to access the virtual goodies.

There's also now the option to save your digital content to you SD memory card, which is handy if you were running low on internal space.

The social aspect of the app has also been tweaked, with support for sharing your reading history with your buddies, and UI improvements have been made when it comes to viewing images and turning the pages.

"We want to give customers the freedom and flexibility to buy their newspapers and magazines once, and read them everywhere across the devices and platforms they chose - just like they do with Kindle books today", said Russ Grandinetti, VP at Amazon Kindle.

"Kindle for Android is our fastest-growing application, and we're excited to launch over 100 newspapers and magazines for our Android customers".

Kindle 2.0 for Android is free, and in the Android Market now.
